Report of Italy on the Implementation of the Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context in the period 2010-2012, 26 March 2013

In the Report of Italy of 26 March 2013 it is  noted that Italian legislation on the subject of environmental impact assessment (EIA) is derived from pertinent EU law, and is even more strict, for certain aspects, in comparison with provisions of the Espoo Convention and Annexes. However, no special provision exists at the national level concerning EIA in a transboundary context; as a consequence, the matter is regulated through agreements concluded with the affected States on a case-by-case basis; this was the case, among others, for the railway line Torino (Italy) – Lyon (France).
