National Report on the Implementation of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. National Reports to be submitted to the 11th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties, Romania, June 2012

The Italian Report contains information on the main achievements in implementing the Ramsar Convention in Italy, during the last triennium: the adoption of the Biodiversity National Strategy (2010); progress in inventorying the Mediterranean wetlands and the work carried out by ISPRA (High Institute for Environmental Protection and Research) for monitoring the protected sites and their ecological characters. On the other hand, ensuring the effective implementation of managing plans remains a critical issue, and will be of priority for fostering the application of the Convention at the national level in the years ahead.
