Convention concerning the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage, Periodic Report – Second Cycle, Section I – Italy

The report affirms that Italian legal framework for the identification, conservation and protection of cultural and natural heritage is adequate. Such legislation is applied on national, regional and local level. In general, national institutions are responsible, and local authorities may protect areas and buildings through urban planning legislation. In the tentative list of potential nominations the following properties are included: Ivrea industrial city of the 20th century, the Venetian works of defense between 15th and 17th centuries and the espace transfrontalier Marittime-Mercantour (Les Alpes de la Mer).
