Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, Concluding observations on the sixth periodic report of Italy, Addendum – Information provided by Italy in follow-up to the concluding observations (CEDAW/C/ITA/CO/6/Add.1, 30 August 2013)

Stereotypes and harmful practices, on one hand, and violence against women, on the other, are the subject of the recommendations contained in paragraphs 23 and 27 of the Committee’s Concluding Observations on the sixth periodic report of Italy. Following the request of the Committee, Italy provided information on the steps undertaken to implement such recommendations. In addition to campaigns and projects promoted both in public and private sector, Italy adopted law No. 38/2009 on sexual violence and stalking and, by the decree of the Minister on equal opportunities of 20 November 2010, the National Action Plan against gender-based violence and stalking; it ratified the Lanzarote Convention on protection of children against sexual exploitation and sexual abuse, and the Istanbul Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence. Furthermore, mention has been made of the Senate’s bill No. 724 on the promotion of the female subjectivity and the fight against femicide and bill No. 764 concerning the introduction of the crime of femicide.
