World Heritage Committee, Report of the Joint UNESCO/ICOMOS/RAMSAR reactive monitoring mission to Venice and its lagoon. Italy (13 – 18 October 2015), World Heritage 40 COM, 6 June 2016

Passage of large ships, unsustainable tourism, changes in the lagoon ecosystem, lack of maintenance of buildings, crowding-out inhabitants, loss of traditional craftsmanship. These are some of the threats highlighted by the monitoring mission, which, based on the assessment of the overall state of conservation of the property and the analysis of the main development projects involved, has formulated its recommendations contained in the Report.
