The Italian Report of 2012 shows that 16% of the Italian territory is affected by desertification, land degradation (DLDD) and drought, concerning in particular the regions Sicily, Sardinia, Apulia, Molise, Marche, which have also poverty rates higher than national average. In order to address DLDD, national policies are oriented to the augmentation of land productivity in the agriculture and forestry sectors and to the improvement of water use and conservation.
