UN Human Rights Council, Report of the Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, especially women and children, Addendum: Mission to Italy, A/HRC/26/37/Add.4, 1 April 2014

In its Report following the visit carried out in Italy from 12 to 20 September 2013 at the invitation of the Government, the Special Rapporteur praises the country’s commitment in the fight against trafficking in persons, particularly evidencing its advanced legal framework on trafficking and its strong partnership with civil society organizations. However, the Report also expresses concerns about the focus on trafficking for sexual exploitation at the expense of other forms of trafficking, the lack of a national plan on the matter and the paucity of financial resources to implement assistance programs for victims.
