Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Concluding observations on the initial report of Italy, CRPD/C/ITA/CO/1, 6 October 2016

The Committee considered the initial report of Italy on the Convention implementation. It pointed on the existence in the country of multiple definitions of disabilities in all sectors and regions, resulting in disparities in access to support and services, on the persistence of the medical perspective in the field of disability, non-alignment with the Convention of the revised concept of disability proposed by the National Observatory on the Status of Persons with Disabilities, lack of definition of reasonable accommodation, and of the qualification of its denial as disability-based discrimination. The Committee’s observations on general questions are followed by those relating to specific rights under the Convention.
